Ali Wong, known for her razor-sharp wit, recently opened up about her evolving relationship with fellow comedian Bill Hader, detailing how their romance blossomed after her divorce from Justin Hakuta. In her latest Netflix special, *Ali Wong: Single Lady*, she candidly discusses her new love life and the aftermath of her split.

Wong announced her divorce from Hakuta, her husband of eight years, in 2022. She admitted feeling embarrassed and vulnerable due to the media attention surrounding their separation. Yet, in her signature comedic style, she found a silver lining, humorously referring to the public coverage as a “Bat-Signal” that let potential suitors know she was back on the market. One of those suitors turned out to be Hader, who had admired Wong from a distance for a while.

Despite the discomfort of her personal life being in the spotlight, Wong has turned it into comedic material. In her special, she jokes about the complexities of dating after divorce and the challenge of finding someone who meets her high standards: talented, funny, and someone she’d feel comfortable introducing to her kids.

Wong and Hader first met casually at social events, but she was unaware of his romantic interest until a mutual friend passed along his phone number. After learning about her divorce, Hader didn’t hesitate to confess his long-time crush on Wong, telling her, "I’ve had a crush on you forever, and I want you to be my girlfriend."

Soon after, Hader began courting Wong while she was traveling in Europe, sending her lavish bouquets of flowers to various cities—London, Amsterdam, Cologne, and Copenhagen. Her female friends were envious of his efforts, while her male friends joked that such grand gestures were borderline obsessive. Wong humorously remarked that men’s romantic efforts have become so rare that any show of affection is now viewed with suspicion.

Despite initial hesitation, Wong eventually warmed to Hader’s persistence, and their relationship deepened. Reflecting on her journey, she revealed in her special, "I did fall in love again. Some of you might know who the guy is—it’s the man who sent me all those flowers in Europe."

Even as she moves forward with Hader, Wong maintains a close friendship with her ex-husband, Justin Hakuta. The two continue to co-parent their children and remain supportive of one another. Wong shared her positive outlook on divorce, saying, "Divorce has a bad reputation for being scary and full of acrimony, but look at me as an example—it’s possible to be best friends with your ex-husband."
